Duchossoir (Ref. 1) does not include a photo of this instrument,
but states that only 7
of these instruments were shipped by Gibson in 1939. This model has a
U-magnet pickup and
non-slip grey-colored material spread on the back and neck
that follows
the outline
of the back and neck, rather than being diamond-shaped as found
on models
shipped after the Fall of 1939.
Duchossoir (Ref. 1),
comments that the instrument shown on page 45, "EH-185 #EGE-5865
has the lowest identified number for
the model." This EH-185 7 string instrument comes from the
first batch
of EH-185s shipped from September, 1939, with numbers reading EGE-58xx.
