Dear friends,
Well, I wanted to write this down before
I forget and it is a story that I would like
to forget. While we were on our last visit
to Tabou, we were staying at a place call
Grand Berebi right on the ocean. We were
all on the beach; Derrick, Erin and I. Cindy
was laid up under a palm tree reading. Some
huge rocks about twenty yards from the shore
line had my attention and, you guessed it,
I had to get on top of one of those bad boys.
Derrick had enough sense not to do it, but
little Erin followed her Daddy out to the
first little rock and she parked it there.
I decided I would go for it. I had to move
in between the waves because I could not
see the bottom with the foam from the waves.
I gingerly climbed on top of that big rock
just sitting there taking it all in; looking
back every now and then to check on Erin.
Well, really to make sure Erin saw Daddy
on the big rock.
The waves started getting a little abusive
and I decided I wasn’t going to take it anymore.
Here’s my second mistake. The first was to
go out there. I turned my back to the waves
and it rolled me so quick, the only thing
to do was to try and protect the rocks from
my hard head; though it did put a new meaning
to the song “He Will Roll You Over the Tide”.
As I made my way up to the surface, I could
not stand because the water had washed away
the sand between the rocks. Every time I
would get one foot on a rock another wave
would knock me down. While all of this was
going on, I noticed that Erin was not on
her rock. For you see she had been knocked
off, after she saw pops go down. It seemed
like forever before I could get to her. Finally
we escaped and we decide to go show our wounds
to the nurse. She wanted to know when did
all this happen. She had not seen a thing
(probably the salt air anesthetized her).
I believe if I would have hung on to the
rock I would have been fine; but I did not
and, therefore, ended up in dangerous territory.
Any time we stray away from the Rock we end
up on shaky ground. Jesus said in Matt 7:24-25,
“Whoever heareth these sayings of Mine, and
doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise
man, which built his house upon the rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came,
and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell not: for it was founded upon
the rock.” Your house and mine is no better
than the foundation it sits on. Oh, how our
foundation needs to be in Christ so that
everything else will hold together. The rain,
floods, and wind do and will come in life.
And sometimes they do beat against the house
but it will not fall when it’s built upon
the Rock, Jesus Christ.
Hopefully, the next letter will have some
meat in it from an intellectual revelation
and not a stupid mistake like this one but
I have a feeling that sooner than later you
will get a laugh or two from another like
this. It is always a joy when I am able to
see Christ and His teachings in everyday
life and it’s a joy to be able to share them
with you.
Thank you for your prayers, encouragement
and emails. We miss you more than you know.
May you receive God’s richest blessing, knowing
His Son, Jesus Christ.
